Dealing with the insurance companies and navigating the ins and outs of the recovery process can be even scarier sometimes.

That’s why Roberts Wilson PA, is here to help you be prepared to deal with the crazies that exist off the road, ready to profit off your misery.

There are certain things you must do if your airbag fails, if you’re hit by an uninsured driver, or a company reports a defect in your current vehicle.

Let’s dive in…..

Do This Before You Ever Think You’ll Get Into A Car Accident

  • Be sure you are properly insured
  • Be sure you have Uninsured Motorist Coverage
  • Be sure your vehicle is in proper working order
  • Use your vehicle safety features (Seat Belts)
  • Don’t drive sleepy
  • Don’t Drink and Drive!

I highly suggest that you print out the following documents, and then put them into a folder to leave in your car or your house where they can be easily found:

  • List of all your doctors and medical conditions
  • List of prescriptions, supplements, and vitamins you take
  • List of all of your allergies
  • Auto insurance information
  • Health insurance information

As you’re about to see with work-zone related injuries, these details above can be crucial for the survival or well being of you or a loved one.

Do it once, and then forget about it so you can focus on driving safely.

Are You Aware That Your Airbag May Be Defective?

Take a moment and see if your car is in this list compiled by the NHTSA:

Several people reading this probably own a BMW, Dodge Ram or Durango, Honda Accord, or Nissan Maxima……

That’s only a few models off the list as I didn’t want to overwhelm you with the lengthy list of all the makes and models on that list.

You see, according to this article by Bloomberg, there is a chemical used in airbags called ammonium nitrate which caused certain types of airbag parts to explode into pieces of shrapnel-like material, while the driver was using the vehicle.

This isn’t old news either as this news was broken at the end of October this year (2014).

It was all so that the car companies could find a cheaper outsourcer in a foreign country to make the airbags. The factory that made these devices actually exploded during a day of production, but later reopened.

You will also want to to get a replacement part as soon as possible to avoid a potential injury.

More than 14 million vehicles, mostly manufactured prior to 2009, have been recalled worldwide due to these defective and dangerous airbags manufactured by Japanese-based Takata Corporation. And at least five deaths have been linked to the airbag defects.

The Risks Of Driving Through A Work Zone

Car Wreck Lawyer North Mississippi, Car Wreck Lawyer Oxford MS   Of the almost 33,000 fatal motor vehicle traffic accidents that occurred on U.S. highways last year, 609 of those took place in work zones. This is mostly because of the heavy amount of traffic on the busier roads, which often get the most work done. And unfortunately, those highways get the craziest drivers who feel the need to race everyone on the road and see how quickly they can make it out of a work zone. Rear-end crashes due to a failure of the speeding driver to slow down or stop before hitting the vehicle in front of them are the most common type. Other typical crashes in this area involve bad road conditions like ice and rain. 18 Wheelers also need extra room and lane sizes are often reduced in work zones. The main things to do to avoid this are common sense things you should do in all driving situations:

  • Slow down and “Give ‘em a Brake”
  • Give courtesy to the construction flaggers and their instructions
  • Keep a safe distance between the drivers around you
  • Use your turn signals and give plenty of warning before changing lanes
  • Avoid anything that’ll distract you like the radio or your mobile phone
